Our Doctors

Dr. Andrew P. Mills

DVM

Andrew joined the Franklin Animal Clinic family as a kennel assistant at the age of 14 and has pursued a career as a veterinarian ever since. He graduated from Ross University in 2002 and became a partner at Franklin Animal Clinic in 2006. From the beginning of his career, Andrew has taken a special interest in complicated cases and orthopedic surgeries.

Andrew now serves as the medical director for Franklin Animal Clinic and supports 4 satellite practices with management and guidance as well. He’s constantly brainstorming new ways to provide the best care for patients and their people.

He has two angels for daughters – his oldest child who is in college and his youngest child who was welcomed into the family in late 2025. In between those 2 angels, he has 4 boys who keep him on his toes and whom he loves to travel with. Last year, he and the boys headed out to the east coast where they visited New York City, Martha’s Vineyard for whale watching and multiple amusement parks for some intense rollercoaster fun!

He and his wife, Whitney, enjoy going on cruises and taking adventures to new parts of the U.S. They are currently planning a trip out west with all of the kids. Previously, they have traveled to southeast Asia, Belize and many Caribbean islands. He’s a car enthusiast and loves doing anything outdoors – including caring for the family’s menagerie of animals which includes cows, chickens, a donkey, 2 dogs and a cat.

Dr. Steve Stropes

DVM

Born in 1964 in Franklin, Steve had a passion for medicine at a young age, and earned his DVM degree from Purdue in 1989. The Stropes family had always used Franklin Animal Clinic for their veterinary care, so it was a homecoming of sorts when Steve joined the practice. Steve loves caring for the community’s pets and meeting all of the different kinds of people who bring them in.

Steve lives on a farm in Trafalgar with his wife of 30+ years. Together they tend to the cows, sheep, chickens, dog and cats. He enjoys hiking, fishing, a variety of shooting sports, traveling with his wife and spending time with their three children.

Dr. Amy Smith

She is particularly focused on pets’ dental care, as well as working to advance and improve veterinary medicine through clinical trials. She loves that the clinic’s community and staff continues to feel like a family even as it continues to grow.

Over the years, Sara has developed special interests in dentistry (she completed coursework with one of the founders of veterinary dentistry – Dr. Steven Holstrom), internal medicine—especially endocrine and autoimmune diseases—and soft tissue surgery. She regularly completes more than triple (sometimes even quadruple!) the required continuing education hours for the state of Indiana—staying current on the best ways to care for her patients is a top priority.
At home, Sara lives with her husband, Todd, their son, and two poodles, Nora and Eli. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, reading up on history, and diving into all things fiber arts—knitting, crochet, embroidery, and yes, even collecting yarn.
